Linking Life and Faith in the New South Africa!

Useful Information About Us

Welcome To Our Website

The Centre for Constructive theology was formed in 1996 by Prof. B. A. Mazibuko, at the University of Durban Westville. Mazibuko was also the founder of the Umlazi Theological Training Project (UTTP), through which he taught Christian education and missiology to township church leaders (both clergy and lay).

He was the first black person to be awarded a PhD in missiology and one of the earliest black theologians to be appointed at the University of South Africa (Unisa) as a lecturer in the Department of Missiology.

What We do

The CCT works with African Instituted Churches (AICs) (classified as historically previously disadvantaged) in the province of KwaZulu Natal by addressing the following:

1. Assist AICs with:

  • Acquiring Theological Education for leaders and lay people;
  • Preparing leaders to be marriage officers;
  • Registering the churches with the South African government;
  • Providing space for debate on traditional and current issues that the society is struggling with at any given time.
  • Offer courses on Gender and masculinity.

2. Conduct research on various issues that deal with the AICs.

Annual Reports

The time of writing our annual reports helps us to reflect on how well staff of the Centre for Constructive Theology have achieved our main objective, which is: to bridge the gap between formal academic theological enquiry and the practical needs and concerns of communities whose faith perspectives on the critical issues confronting South Africa have been undervalued in the past.

For 2010, this main objective was broken down into the following specific objectives.
